Same Revelation, Different Truth

This is a mixed media collage on canvas and incorporates a number of gel prints layered over with acrylic paint and pen ink. I think this one is the closest I’ve come to actual abstract work on canvas as there is little that’s recognisable as a figure, landscape, botanical, wildlife etc. It’s all imaginary save perhaps the ghost image of the tattooed girl in the lower portion. Even here, the image has been utterly transformed.
The title comes from the notion that we all have different perspectives on reality. Two people might go through an experience, whether impactful or seemingly trivial, yet they will both take away a different interpretation of what happened. Some experiences have wider impacts on humanity. For example, gospel accounts in the New Testament vary considerably in interpretation, tone and detail, and even the inclusion of a particular word can shape whole doctrines. What about those unexplained lights in the sky? Atmospheric disturbance? New military technology or alien intervention? As human beings we are complex amalgams of different ideas and experiences, and we all have our different notions of what truth is.
What shapes can you discern in the imagery? Ask a friend to look at the same portion of the piece and see if they see something different, or feel a different emotion. It might spark an interesting discussion.
