This is one of my most mixed media pieces ever (if that’s a correct phrase). It includes everything from found objects, botanical elements e.g. honesty, manuscript paper, textiles and a wood pigeon feather. The themes are harvest, the land and a nod to Led Zeppelin’s fourth album. The frame itself was bought at a charity shop which initially contained a print which I’ve subsequently cut up to use in collage - so the piece is very much in keeping with my reduce, reuse, recycle mantra. It also reminded me of the painting which appears on the LZ album in question, and it’s evocation of a hermit-like individual at one with his environment.

The song ‘Battle of Evermore’ is one of my favourites from the LZ catalogue, both lyrically and musically. Phrases like, ‘The apples of the valley hold the seeds of happiness’ are very hippy-zen but I love them. I couldn’t help the song replaying in my mind over and over again.

Special thanks to Mike at Castle Framing for meeting the challenge of framing this one!
